IndeigenAfrika To Rock Alliance Francaise

IndeigenAfrika, a youth based at the National Theatre in Accra in Accra will on Friday September 24, 2004 present their brand of traditional and contemporary music at the Alliance Francaise in Accra.

Made of pupils and students, the group has over the years been making explorations into numerous compositions by renowned Ghanaian composers while working on their own creations.

With atenteben flutes as a dominant instrument in their arsenal, the group also incorporates all kinds of traditional Ghanaian instruments in their performance. These include Wia, Xylophone, Fontonfrom, Atumpan, Kpanlogo, Gome, Conch Shells and various bells and shakes that blend with sweet voices from young boys and girls who are proud of their traditional and culture.

IndeigenAfrika will entertain the audience with their own version of tunes such as Yen Are Asase, Okwampa, Abladee, Asansa, Susumbri, Nkukeko, Kotoklo, Lanmaya, Awo Awo, Adaigba, Kristiana, Sweet Mother and Akatih by Prof. Kwabena Netia, Nana Acheampong, Afoley Odai and others.

The group has performed to cheering audiences In Europe and other parts of Africa in addition to performances for visiting heads of state to Ghana. In 2001, IndeigenAfrika represented Ghana at the Expo Fair in the German City of Hanover.

In a related development, the group which is currently on tour of some regions in Ghana is scheduled to perform in Kumasi, Obuasi, Mampong, Ejura, Cape Coast and Takoradi.

IndeigenAfrika will later join hundreds of people in the Volta regional capital, Ho with a performance during the annual Yam Festival, which is expected to attract from all parts of Ghana.

The Alliance Francaise in collaboration with the French Embassy in Accra, is sponsoring the tour of the regions as well as the performance in Accra.
