The Indigen Theatre Company would present its inaugural production dubbed: ‘Born for This,’ an original musical produced by Vako Tamaklo, on August 19 at the College of Physicians and Surgeons.

‘Born for This’ links the stories of the dominant Bible characters; Ruth, David and Esther in a fresh new way brining their journeys to life through the colour of music, dance and prose and resonating the deepest cry of the human soul.

Madam Tamaklo told the GNA in Accra that the company was a new entity that sought to bring the wonder of musical theatre to life within a Ghanaian context.

She said their activities involved the staging of family-friendly and original musicals throughout the year.

She said the performing arts, music and theatre have become synonymous with good entertainment, to a wider Ghanaian audience.

“Well thought through, planned and executed shows are appreciated more and more and that is what Indigen seeks to maintain,” she added.

The organiser said their aim was to bring sterling performances to their audiences and within a short period of time, Indigen undoubtedly, would have a wide audience of music theatre lovers, who were currently just waiting for what their company has to offer.

She appealed to a wide cross-section of the community including churches, schools, businesses, and theatre lovers in every spectrum of society to support the activities of the arts.

The formidable orchestral ensemble, Afro Maestros, would be supporting this musical theatre production and also offer accompaniment to the guest opening Performer, Leah Hawkins from the United States of America.

Leah Hawkins is a Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist, who sings with the Washington National Opera in Washington, DC.
