BROADCASTER & PUBLIC RELATIONS DIRECTOR OF BLACK STAR TRAVEL & TOURS, USA
1. Can you tell me about yourself; A brief background, place of birth and education/training?
I was born on October 18th, 1971 at the Military Hospital in Accra, Ghana to Commander Anatsui who was a Communications Expert in the Navy and Benedicta Ackuaku. I started school at Kotoka Primary School and Okuapemman Secondary School up until form 5 .
After my high school diploma, I decided to pursue a course in business management. While taking the course, I met the late great Joe Mensah who had seen me performed at a local spot in Tema with a group known as New Faces. I've always had the passion and drive to speak publicly and impact a mass of people.
I really didn't have any formal training in broadcasting but I happened to have the natural gift to communicate and a command over a few languages.
2. What is the most valuable lesson learned growing up?
The most valuable lesson I learnt growing up is never to burn bridges that you have crossed and keep God first.
3. What made you decide to be in Broadcasting and then Public Relations?
I got into broadcasting by chance or should I say I was discovered in 1993 by Ivan Quashiga, an award winning producer/director in Ghana two years, after my first big stage appearance in 1992 with Public Enemy, Jermaine Jackson etc @ (Panafest 92)
I always wanted to do something more challenging and still maintain a strong relationship with people and still do what I love the most (PUBLIC SPEAKING)
4. Who inspired you to be in the aforementioned industry?
I would say a little bit of great men and more of God; The late Joe Mensah, Tommy Annan Forson, The late Dusty Wayne, Kwesi Kyei Darkwa, David Radigan and all the Radio Greats.
5. Can you tell us about your achievements/weaknesses and also how you turned that weakness into strength?
Even though I have a lot under my belt, my greatest achievement is; I have inspired a lot radio personalities and musicians in Ghana.
6. What has been the extent of your success as a PR expert?
I am new in the P.R industry and as I mentioned earlier on, I wanted to do something more challenging. As far as success,the best is yet to come.
7. What do you think of the state of the Ghanaian music industry in general?
Ghanaian music is really gaining grounds worldwide and I would like to commend all up and coming musicians for their creativity. What they need is better exposure through management and endorsements etc.
8. How did you get involved with travel industry heavyweight; Black Star Travel & Tours?
I happen to be a friend of Mr Nyarko(CEO of Black Star Travel), an experienced and well respected businessman in the Ghanaian Community in the U.S. HE BELIEVED IN ME BECAUSE WE SHARED SIMILAR VIEWS ON THE NECESSITY TO PROVIDE AFFORDABLE AIR FARES FOR OUR COMMUNITY.
9. Where do you see BSTT?s position in the travel industry, the next 5 years?
I see Black Star Travel growing from an agency to an industry Giant.
10. Where do you see Ahenfo Airlines in the next few years?
I cannot say much for Ahenfo Airlines but I would request another interview so I can elaborate on the whole Akwaaba/Ahenfo situation, but I must say even though the whole Akwaaba thing turned out to be a big joke that cost a lot of people, I would hope that if Ahenfo ever start operating, they would be consistent. Something has to work to save the situation because high reputations are at stake besides the fact that that Ghanaian community need more airlines plying the route to make it more affordable.
11. What message of encouragement do you have for the Ghanaian youth in general?
Keep God First and everything would work out greatly. Respect and honour you parents so your days can be long on the earth.
