Ghanaian gospel musician, Nicholas Omane Acheampong, has criticized journalist, Auntie Naa, for interviewing Adwoa Penamang, who claims to be the wife of ailing artiste, Yaw Sarpong.

He contended that Auntie Naa's decision to let Penamang make disparaging remarks about Sarpong on the radio was extremely unprofessional and unnecessary.

Acheampong suggested that Auntie Naa should have reflected on the potential repercussions the interview could have on the unwell artiste and his family, and should have therefore refrained from airing it to prevent any dispute.

In an interview with Kwasi Aboagye on Peace FM, Acheampong remarked, "What happened on Oyerepa FM indicates that Auntie Naa has greatly erred. If this is the standard for journalism, then formal education in the field would be redundant. I believe Yaw Sarpong's 'wife' must have talked about the matter with Naa's production team prior to the broadcast.

"Since Yaw Sarpong hasn't committed serious offenses like armed robbery as it's a matter of family and marital issues, she should have approached the situation differently. She shouldn't have allowed Sarpong's wife to use the platform to damage the well-respected image of the veteran gospel musician," Acheampong said.

This follows an interview where Adwoa Penamang disclosed to Auntie Naa on Oyerepa FM how the family has mistreated and neglected her since Yaw Sarpong took ill.

She also expressed her distress over Yaw Sarpong's family's decision to allow Maame Tiwaa to care of the music star, leaving her [Adwoa] neglected.

Sarpong has responded to the allegations stating he divorced Penamang 20 years ago and also denied claims that he is dating Maame Tiwaa.

The interview has drawn criticism from some members of the public who feel the interview was unnecessary as it tarnishes the image and legacy of Yaw Sarpong.

Meanwhile, Prophet J.Y. Adu of New Jerusalem Chapel, Kumasi, has explained that Yaw Sarpong is under his care because his illness is not medical, but rather spiritual. He cited the failure of doctors to successfully treat the condition as one of the reasons.

Yaw Sarpong has been suffering from a stroke, and there are expectations that he will fully recover and continue his ministry.
