Renowned Highlife artist Rex Omar has urged the government to invest more in the creative arts sector to tackle unemployment in the country.

Speaking with Graphic Showbiz, Rex Omar pointed out that there is a need for policies that empower creative talents both within the country and on the global stage.

He highlighted the significant unemployment rates in the country and emphasized the importance of creating opportunities for the youth in various creative fields such as music, film, content creation, etc.

"We need to establish a policy framework with projects that will harness our talents. Statistics show that almost 60 percent of our population is youthful, and a large portion of our youth are involved in the creative industry.

"In a country with high unemployment rates, it is crucial that we intentionally create opportunities for these young people in fields like music, filmmaking, content creation, fashion, broadcasting, design, publishing, and advertising," he stated.

Rex Omar mentioned the impressive revenue of $198 billion generated by the creative economy in 2023, accounting for nearly 10% of the global GDP. He said that strategic investments in these areas can help address job creation challenges in Ghana.

"If we invest in these sectors intentionally, it can help solve many job creation issues. It all starts with policy. In 2023, the creative economy generated over $198 billion, nearly 10 percent of the global GDP.

"If we actively support these sectors at a policy level, it will benefit everyone, including entrepreneurs, and contribute to national development," he explained.
