For many Ghanaians, pretty Ama K Abebrese is a consummate British presenter. She began her training at Youth Culture Television in London, an organization started by Sabrina Guinness on the TV show, ‘Challenge Anneka.’

Due to her exploits, she became a presenter on BBC2’s youth shows; ‘Pass Da Mic’ and ‘The English File’ educational series. She went on to become and is still a regular TV presenter on OBE TV, hosting and producing a number of shows including ‘One Touch’ and entertainment chat show ‘On The Sofa’, on which she has interviewed guests like Akon and Ziggy Marley.

Aside her presenting, Ama is also an actress.By the age of 11, Ama said she had been acting on stage. In London, she had performed on a number of shows even though she is not appeared in any major movie. She also has a degree in Drama from St. Mary’s University College, Surrey, UK, apart from her BA in Media Arts.

“For me, acting was always a goal. I fell into presenting by accident. In the UK, if you ask actors in the UK, there aren’t enough roles for actors there and especially if you are a black female, it is like non-existent. I went for auditions upon auditions. It got to a point I asked why I am I turned down, no no! Presenting just happened because I am talkative. But I never abandoned the dream of acting.”

Ama is currently the lead actress in Leila Djansi’s international movie, ‘Sinking Sand’. She said she didn’t allow the opportunity to slip away because it has always been her dream to act.

Even though she has contacts in Hollywood, Ama appears to be the type that is not really crazy about acting in Hollywood.

“I will like to work around the continent. I want to work in South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria and wherever. I definitely like to explore. Hollywood is very difficult. I think everybody wants to go to Hollywood. If it happens then great, so be it. I have friends there who are trying to run and get out. If I am lucky and something comes from there, I will try it. I am an African and I will love to work on the continent. I think we’ve not done enough. If something comes up from other African countries, hey I will go for it. It is not just about Hollywood,” she passionately said.
