Ghanaian actress and producer Fella Makafui has shed light on the financial hurdles of film production in Ghana.

Makafui, who is currently promoting her upcoming movie, ‘Resonance’, shared that creating a film in the country is financially demanding due to the lack of external funding options such as investments and loans.

"Producing a film in Ghana is a bit difficult because you literally have to pay for everything," Makafui stated in an interview with TV3 on May 1, 2024.

She added that all expenses, including equipment, cast and crew salaries, feeding, and costumes, were funded solely by her, stating, “Everything is from my pocket.”

Makafui's revelation comes amid calls for a more structured financial support for the arts, which could help nurture and grow local talent and productions.

In an earlier interview on Hitz FM, Fella Makafui stressed the need for fan and investor engagement to boost filmmakers' efforts.

She added that public support could increase revenue and fund more productions.

The actress is promoting her new movie, Resonance, which is set to be premiered at the Silverbird Cinemas in Accra on Saturday, May 11.
