The Vodafone Ghana Music Awards Industry Awards 2015 which came off at Alisa Hotel in Accra last Monday saw George Yaw Owusu known in showbiz circles as George Forest adjudged sound engineer of the year.
The Kumasi-based who started his music career at the tender age of 12 in an interview with Abrantepa on Radio Univers’ mid-morning show, Brunch2Lunch said his heart was filled with immense joy after having received the sound engineer of the year award for the first time in his career.
“It is rare for a Kumasi-based person to be awarded. I started this work thirty-six years ago and had not received any award. However, I stayed focused and never got discouraged because I knew a time would come when I would be recognised for my good works. So if they have recognised my works, I accept the honour. The cup fits me. I thank everyone”, he said in an elated manner.
George Forest also seized the opportunity to encourage young ones and those who lost to him to keep up with the good work since they may be awarded in subsequent editions, though he hopes to defend the crown.
Asked what the award means to him, the brain behind Evangelist Diana Asamoah’s “Hymn (Pentecost Soree Nwom)” noted that he was more than a sound engineer but he accepts the honour.
“I produce the beat and mix it solely. If you listen to my production, you would notice I play everything live. I am more than a sound engineer but if they fused all these and gave me the award, I thank God for that. It is a good news for me and the people of Kumasi”, he said.
