Movie producer Socrate Safo has reacted to campaign by members of Creative Arts For Change rooting for him to be the Deputy Min. for Tourism, Culture & Creative Arts under the governance of Nana Addo.
Mr. Safo speaking to Zionfelix.net Tuesday morning disclosed that he will gladly accept the position as deputy minister for the ministry but he is not behind the “Socrate Safo for Deputy Min. for Tourism, Culture & Creative Arts” campaign. He said movie producer Kofi Asamoah popularly known as Kofas first called to inform him about the campaign giving him reasons why he; Socrate should be given the said position.
“Let me establish that I’m not behind the social media campaign. The first person who called to draw my attention on this thing was Kofi Asamoah. He sent me the picture. I even laughed after I saw it. He told me he wants to take it up so I asked him why and he said for him, that industry is one sector which needs someone who understands the field.
It is a different industry altogether. I will equate to a field like medicine, if you don’t have passion for it, you cannot practice good medicine. A good doctor doesn’t just administer prescriptions but his personal touch alone heals even before the medicine.
So for him, Kofi Asamoah, we should get somebody that understand our challenged – that knows why there is division among musicians, who knows why there is division in the film industry so that in case there is any problem, he will understand and know who did what and how it will be solved.
This is the sense he made to me,” Socrate narrated to Zionfelix.net
He continued that he had another call from one Ashbowa who also asked him to go for the position as members of Creative Arts For Change are pleading.
“Then I got another call from Ashbowa. He said if you shy away from it as you do always and whoever is put there does not help the industry, Nana Addo will be disgraced. If the person put there tells us things from the book but those things are different from what are on the grounds, people will be frustrated.
If this makes the government that you campaigned for not to be able to deliver in relation to the creative arts, you will be blamed because you called most of them to join the campaign team.
Will you even be able to call them to come and campaign again for NPP in 2020? Leaving our fate in the hands of an outsider will be dangerous for us.”
Socrate further stated that after listening to words from these persons and others, he concluded that he would accept the position if it is given to him.
“These are some of the senses the industry people put in me and I conceded and said let me do it because it will be risky to leave it in the hands of outsiders with degrees and other things. The problem on the field is far different from what we see in the books.”
