Ivorian male hairdresser wins 2001 Golden Scissor Award

Mr. Koffi Konani Raymond, a 30-year-old Ivorian hairdresser was on Saturday, won this year's West Africa Golden Scissor Award of 2,000 dollars, plus a certificate and a hand dryer.

He would travel to South Africa to compete for the all Africa finals in July next year where the winner would have the opportunity to compete again in an event.

Ms Beatrice Gbeko of Kumasi and Ms Georgina Odonkor of Accra won the second and the third positions with a cash prize of 1,000 and 800 dollars respectively each with a certificate and a hand dryer.

This year's contest attracted 10 regional finalists from Ghana, Cote d'Ivoire, Nigeria, Mauritania, and Senegal. The winners were selected on creativity, professionalism, handling of tools, and beautiful hairstyle.

The theme for the contest was "the Contemporary Dark and Lovely Professional Image" and it was staged at the main auditorium of the Accra International Conference Centre. The show attracted distributors of Carson's products and professional hairdressers from some West African countries.

The Golden Scissor Award, an international hair beauty with its root in the United States (US) is a tribute to the hairdressing industry, in the quest for excellence and dark and lovely icon image.

It gives hairstylist, the opportunity to ply their trade with the best in the world. The award is to promote the use of "Soft and Sheen" Carson hair products.
