Comic stage actor, Jeneral Ntatia in this hilarious skit captures the value of the cedis as against the dollars in the foreign exchange market.
He dwells on the depreciating state of the cedis over time in a short prayer, asking God to intervene in the situation.
“Father I bring the cedi in front of you, how many heads do we have on the dollar, only one and how many heads do we have on the cedi, 6 heads. How can one head compete against 6 heads? Father we take one head from the cedi and we match it against the one head on the dollar” he begged.
He larked about the purpose of Asante Warrior queen on the cedi notes if she couldn’t use her ‘powers’ to fight, ‘arrest’ the cedi and make it stable. Yaa Asantewaa, who was featured on the Twenty Cedis note of 1986, has since been taken off after several changes and redenomination of the note.
“Yaa Asantewaa, why are you hiding in the cedi? We put you there for a reason, Yaa it is time, Yaa Asantewaa rise up….go and fight…Yaa, if you don’t arrest the cedi for us, we’ll take you off and replace you with Betty Mould Iddrissu”, he joked.
Ghana’s currency; the Ghana Cedis, in recent times has suffered a slight drop against the dollar which has significantly affected businesses in the country.
The drop is affecting importers who have to issue more cedis for the dollar and other major trading currencies.
