Twenty-year-old student Jennifer Opoku last Saturday beat seven other beauties to emerge the beauty queen for the Ashanti Zone in this year's Pleasure Do contest. For her prize, Jennifer walked away with the ?800,000 cash prize at stake. She was followed by Karen Akoli a 21-year-old student who got ?600,000 and who together with Jennifer will represent the zone in the grand finale for the Miss Ghana Crown.

The other beauties received consolation prizes of ?200,000 each plus sponsors products. The event, which was hosted at the Prempeh Assembly Hall, also selected champions for the Highlife talent hunt and Dance Competition to represent the zone in the national finals later in the year.

In the dance competition, which was keenly contested, 19-year-old student Elvis Boateng danced his way to the final and took away the ?500,000 prize money. He was followed by Abu Bazooka, a 23-year-old barber, beating 11 other contestants to qualify for the finals with Elvis.

In the Highlife talent hunt, an 18 year-old-lady, Dovi Dablah, who came in as a last minute replacement for her absentee brother, pulled a big surprise when she emerged champion and walked away with her cash prize of ?500,000.

Stephen Paddy 18, was the runner-up and received ?450,000. They both qualified to represent the zone in the grand finale.

With Pikuss Laryea and Adjoa Enimil Armah of Kapital Radio as MCs, the show opened with the Dance competition in which 13 contestants first danced to highlife music and then to a mystery tune after which eight of them were selected for the winners to be determined after doing a dance to club music.

In the Hiplife segment, the six contestants performed their own compositions and then sang and rapped a mystery tune with the lyrics on domestic violence. The beauties on the other hand, introduced themselves, gave short messages and answered question which they picked.

On hand to provide entertainment was Batman and Nana King and C.O. Lewis, Hiplife Talent 2002, who gave a fiery performance to the admiration of the audience. Funtime was another entertainment affair and as usual MC Pikuss Laryea was at his best.
