Aflao, Sept 25, GNA - An attempt by a jilted husband to kill his ex-wife together with their three children by lacing their drinking water with a poisonous chemical at Agbozume failed because the woman scented the chemical while taking a sip.
Klutsey Dorkenu, 33, a farmer, who the police said had previously been reprimanded by the elders of the community after he was found defecating into the woman's pots containing drinking water, on Friday appeared before an Aflao circuit court for attempted murder. His plea was not taken and was remanded to appear before the court again on October 10.
Police Inspector George Bedzra of Agbozume told the court that Dorkenu lived with Cecilia Mitsiame in her family home at Task-Corner, a suburb of Agbozume, and had three children with her when the marriage went sour.
After the accused had left the wife and the children, the woman continuously experienced petty thefts.
The prosecution said Dorkenu broke into Cecilia's room in the night of September 4 and stole corn flour.
He poured a poisonous chemical commonly used in fumigating rodents into her pot containing drinking water with the intent of killing her and the children but Cecilia found out following morning.
