John Dumelo Ladies’ man and suave Ghanaian actor John Dumelo has reacted to intense criticisms over his decision to play a role in a Nigerian movie being described as “a gay movie”, which is yet to be on Nollywood shelves.

He told NEWS-ONE that people should not jump to conclusion and take him to the cleaners without first seeing the movie in question.

“Everyone has to watch the movie to make their own judgment”, instead of solely depending on hear-say and media reports to draw conclusion, he disclosed in an encounter with this paper.

The alleged gay movie titled ‘Men In Love’, as cited by nigeriafilms.com, one of Nigeria’s top websites, is already causing a “heavy storm” in the Nollywood country.

It reportedly showcases the perverted nature of homosexual acts. Scenes from the movie purportedly captured top Enugu-based actor Muna Obiekwe romancing and hitting the backside of John Dumelo, who is seen facing down on the bed without any underwear.

In a larger way, the movie depicts how Muna goes about chasing any man and is ready to give anything to get them.

While it will be explained to be make-believe, curious minds are wondering the kind of lesson the movie will teach the public, as it shows how a man can find pleasure in a fellow man.

This has incurred the wrath of some movie critics and fan base of the Ghanaian actor, who have expressed dismay and shock about his involvement in the movie which also starred Tonto Dikeh and Mary Uranta.

According to John Dumelo, “it was a very difficult task accepting the role in the movie”, as some big actors refused to accept it.

He however decided to take up the challenge because he hates the act of gays, which he described as demonic.

He said he wanted to use the movie platform to create awareness and educate people that it is unholy. He noted that they are not using the movie to promote gays, adding that people should not get him wrong.

“I hate gay people. I did the movie to raise awareness that gay is evil and demonic. It’s a gay movie to let the world know it’s demonic. I hear it is becoming an increasing canker in some African countries and awareness has to be raised about it,” he said.

The actor, who is also a real estate developer, says he is not gay as people are trying to suggest, due to his decision to play a role in the movie.

“Everyone has to watch the movie to make their judgment. I know it’s a controversial role but I guess it’s part of acting and everyone has to remember that movies are also to educate.”

John said in the movie, Muna’s character put him under a spell and at the end, it was prayers that saved him from the spell. This is to show that “all of us have to pray for all gay people,” he concluded.

This is the first time John has come under intense scrutiny over his choice of movie roles. He was in the controversial ‘Heart of Men’ but he was not among the actors who were criticized for playing explicit roles.
