John Dumelo Reacts To Rape Allegation

Ghanaian actor John Dumelo who is gradually warming his way into the hearts of many Ghanaian and Nigerian movie lovers, has described an alleged rape story published by a Nigerian website against him as malicious.

John said this when peacefmonline caught up with him over the weekend at the Accra Mall. He said he does not know where the story came from because he has not raped anybody. “If it was true that I have gone to rape somebody in Nigeria like the story said, why is it that I am still walking freely in Ghana? Where is the girl? Who is she? Why are her parents or anybody from Nigeria not calling to ask me about it? He asked.

Asked why he thinks someone can just write and make such a serious allegation about him, John said it might be the work of someone or a group of people who do not like him or perhaps someone who feels threatened. “It might be envy, or someone just wants to get up and write stories about me and Frank Raja (A Director). If it is true, let the girl come to Ghana and report to the police, for them to come and arrest me. Nothing of that sort happened; I think it is a malicious story”, John emphasized.

It will be recalled that John was mentioned as one of the numerous guys who allegedly raped a housemaid mercilessly in Nigeria whiles shooting a film in Asaba, Delta state some weeks back. The story also mentioned Nigerian movie director based in Ghana, Frank Raja, who has also denied the allegation, when peacefmonline spoke to him last week.

Commenting on a statement by a Nigerian producer accusing him and other Ghanaian actors and actresses of invading the Nigerian movie industry, John said anybody who will make that statement does not know what he is talking about. “It is not a matter of invading Nigeria, because I know Mercy Johnson will be coming to Ghana next week to film. Two months ago, Jim Ike and other Nigerians like Chika Ike, Tonto Dike were in Ghana to film as well, so what is the person talking about? It is the same thing.

They come here and we go there, so I do not see why they said we are invading there when they are also coming here,” he said.

John added that if you go to Hollywood, people travel all the way to India and Indians also go to America; and Nigeria is just 45 minutes away from Ghana, so nobody should talk about us invading Nigeria.
