........ MAN HACKED TO DEATH

Death was what resulted when a 19-year-old man attempted to fortify himself against harm in case anybody used a cutlass, dagger or any sharp implement to attack him.

Bright Addo's self-protection bid at Num Nava, a suburb of Tsito, in the Volta Region, has led to the arrest of Moses Tsiteh, a self styled herbalist and farmer, 28 and Christian Adjaho, a farmer aged 20.

At about 7:00 am. on October 16, 2008, Addo decided to seek fortification against cutlass strikes at Num Nava, which is in the Ho municipality.

After the ritual, Moses Tsiteh gave a cutlass to Addo to hack at any part of his body to find out whether there will be a cut or not. Addo decided that he should use it on his right upper arm and to his surprise there was no cut.

To seal the fortification, Christian Adjaho then collected the cutlass from Addo and sliced his (Addo's) right upper arm and this resulted in a deep injury. Addo allegedly bled profusely and later fell unconscious.

Frightened by what had happened, Tsiteh and Adjaho rushed Addo to the Ho Municipal Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

A report was made to the police at Tsito and they were arrested.

Tsiteh and Adjaho have been charged with abetment of manslaughter and manslaughter respectively. They have pleaded not guilty.

The High Court presided over by Mr. Justice Kofi Essel-Mensah admitted the accused to GH¢20,OOO bail with a surety each, to reappear on. February 22.

This was after counsel for Adjaho, Mr Ernest Gyaewu, had pleaded for bail. Assistant State Attorney, Mrs Comfort Tasiame is representing the state.
