KARAOKE NITE ON OXFORD STREET

Saturday March 15 will for a long time remain one of the most exciting moments on one of the busiest streets in Accra, the Oxford Street in Osu. This was the day that, Oxford Street, which never goes to sleep, was introduced to another kind of entertainment, the LG Karaoke Night.

The day, which began as one of the normal days at Osu, saw the erection of solid and imposing stage branded with LG Karaoke banners. On stage was the ATL Sounds DJs' music set-up with a huge LG Big Screen television, making passers-by wonder what was going to happen.

By 6pm, when the DJs had succeeded in drawing some crowd, two radio presenters Papa Nii (Oesuphagus) and Captain Babanawo (Wofa K) mounted the stage, bringing curiosity to a heightened peak.

Wofa K, set the evening rolling to what later became known to the curious fans as the LG Karaoke Night, which formed part of activities to celebrate 10 years of LG in Ghana.

This was a night when anybody could grab a microphone and attempt to sing their favourite songs, usually with the intent of showing how well they know and have mastered these songs. As one participant after the other mounted the stage, it was obvious it was going to be a night with a difference, which indeed was.

By 9:30pm, the Karaoke was over, but there was no way the crowd was going to be left out so the DJs had no alternative but serve them with more than two hours of good music sending them into a frenzy mood for the night ahead.
