Entertainment pundit Vida Adutwumwaa has expressed disappointment in gospel artiste Ohemaa Mercy for involving the police in a dispute with her former employee, Kwaku Osei Korankye Asiedu, aka KOKA.
Speaking on United Showbiz on September 28, 2024, Vida Adutwumwaa highlighted the dedication and passion KOKA has for his work, despite sometimes losing his temper.
"I always say do not attach your emotions to your work because some people can frustrate you to a point you might lose it. I am disappointed in Ohemaa Mercy for arresting KOKA," she stated.
Adutwumwaa pointed out the difficulty in finding investors and connections in the industry and stated that while KOKA might say things out of anger, his commitment to his work is undeniable in an industry where such dedication is rare.
She argued that if KOKA was owed money, his frustration was understandable, and involving the police was unnecessary.
"Ohemaa Mercy herself admitted that she owed him. If she felt threatened, the whole issue was about the money. Why involve the police? She could have just paid him," she added.
She also noted the impact KOKA had on Ohemaa Mercy's programme, particularly in securing sponsors.
"Compare the number of sponsors she had when KOKA was working for her to now that he has been arrested. Meaning he had an impact on the programme. So now who will go with her for the marketing?" she asked.
Adutwumwaa further questioned how Ohemaa Mercy would find someone else to fill KOKA's role, suggesting that potential employees might be wary of working with her due to the incident.
"Where will she get another person to do all that? Will it even be possible to get someone because they may not want to work with you because they don't know the limit to which they can demand certain things," she said.
What happened?
The legal battle between KOKA and Ohemaa Mercy began after he recently ended their working relationship and attempted to reclaim funds he claimed she owed him.
KOKA, who had served as Ohemaa Mercy’s road manager and marketer, ended their working relationship after alleging that she took on projects without his involvement.
The situation escalated when KOKA demanded payment of his GH¢8,500 and when Ohemaa Mercy hesitated to settle the debt, he reportedly issued threats both online and privately.
It was also disclosed in court that KOKA threatened to send thugs after Ohemaa Mercy if she did not pay the outstanding sum, prompting her to file a police complaint.
Court proceedings revealed that KOKA had given her a deadline to pay the debt or face consequences.
In his defence, he pleaded not guilty to charges of threatening harm.
He asserted that his intentions were solely to retrieve the money he believed was owed to him and that he had no intention of causing harm.
