Why would an artiste name a song “aluguntugui”? For the answer, Focus FM’s Kwame Poku (DJ Scientific) interviewed the originators of that song- Keche on the Focus Citi show.

Keche pa, one of the duo, said “aluguntugui” is the Ga name for sweet apple and they wanted a simile for sweetness. Instead of sugar, honey or the other sweet things, they decided to use the local name of the fruit because it is funny and catchy. He also says the song is an encouragement for young men to be bold to approach ladies they find attractive and not just sit back and allow beautiful opportunities pass them by.

Asked how the utterances of one prophet Joshua Awuah that the pressure boyz had acquired their “sokode” song with the help of Maame Water, a spirit had affected the group, Keche pa said their fortunes had not been affected at all. He says the pastor is not worth being taken seriously considering that the group is out with another hit- “aluguntugui” after he prophesied that the group would never make another hit track again.

Spyda Lee, the manager for the group who also spoke to DJ Scientific said Super O.D was featured in the video of the song “aluguntugui” to add a special touch of humor. He says though it was difficult reaching super OD who is almost 80 years old, it was worth having him on the video.

According to the manager :

“humorous songs should have the element of humour showing in their videos as well; and that is why we brought Super OD and Funny face on board.”

The two friends; keche pa and keche de, have known each other as friends for nine years and have braved several hardships together and are now successful on the Ghanaian music stage. Fans are to watch out for some singles they are working on currently.**
