Kenkey seller splashes hot oil on woman

Tema, Aug. 06, GNA - A Circuit Court "A" in Tema has granted 50 million cedis bail with a surety to Aba Atta, a Kenkey seller, who allegedly splashed hot oil on a woman, who demanded payment of cost of pepper the suspect bought from her.

Aba Atta, pleaded not guilty and will re-appear on Tuesday, August 24, 2004.

Police Chief Inspector Mary Assunta told the Court presided over by Mr Charles Asiedu that on March 18, 2004, a witness in the case, a trading partner of the complainant, Madam Veronica Segbefia, sold pepper to the accused who lives at Tema Manhean on credit at the cost of 108,000 cedis.

Chief Insp Assunta said Atta made part payment of 40,000 cedis and promised to pay the remaining amount later but failed to honour her pledge.

Chief Inspector Assunta said at 1900 hours March 31, the complainant and the witness went to the house of the accused to demand for the balance.

Atta splashed hot oil she had used to fly fish on the complainant resulting in severe burns on her body. Madam Segbefia was sent to Hospital for treatment.
