Afrobeat artiste King Promise has been named Artiste of the Year at the 26th Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs), held on May 10, 2025, at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre.

The Paris hitmaker secured the top honour after edging out stiff competition from fellow nominees Stonebwoy, King Paluta, Kweku Smoke, Team Eternity Ghana, Joe Mettle, and Black Sherif.

This marks the first time King Promise has won the prestigious title, following several nominations in past editions.

After narrowly missing out on the award last year, King Promise took a more strategic approach this year by ramping up his campaign efforts.

He officially named media personality Tilly Akua Nipaa as his spokesperson in the lead-up to the event.

In addition to winning the coveted Artiste of the Year award at the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards, King Promise also took home three other major awards: Best Afropop Song of the Year, Best Afrobeats/Afropop Artiste of the Year, and Album/EP of the Year for his True to Self project.

Taking to the stage for his biggest win of the night, the Terminator hitmaker gave an emotional speech, revealing that he hadn’t planned for the moment until record producer Killbeatz convinced him otherwise.

“You guys know I’ve been here a couple of times and I’ve gone home, you know. So I did not write a speech, and then Killbeatz told me in the car, ‘I have a feeling, so write a speech,’” he said.

He added that he typed a few words on his phone just in case, and used the moment to first give thanks.

“First of all, I want to say praises to the almighty God, praises to Jesus Christ,” he said.

King Promise went on to express gratitude to record producer Killbeatz and his team at Legacy Life Entertainment, acknowledging their role in shaping his career.

“I want to say thank you to one man who changed my life, Killbeatz and Legacy Life Entertainment right here on my right. I want to say thank you to my well-abled team,” he added.

He encouraged young artistes to draw inspiration from his journey.

“If any young person is watching me right now who has a dream, use me as an example of resilience. My first year when I broke out on the scene, I had seven nominations and I left with zero. While some people laughed, I just worked harder because I believe in God’s timing. Today, I am the chosen one,” he declared.
