Ghana’s youngest director and musician, Kobi Rana, born Cornelius Phanthomas, threw a ‘Kelewele’ and sachet water party to mark his birthday at the Trade Fair site yesterday.

The party reportedly attracted a number of his friends who passed through to wish him well. It was strictly by invitation because it was intended to be a secret one, according to NEWS-ONE source. However, a few hours to the start of the party, some of his friends broadcasted it on BlackBerry.

It is not clear how old Kobi is but a source said, “I just know he is 25 and he has ‘Hotel Babylon’, ‘Love & Facebook’ and a classic movie coming soon.” Last year, Kobi celebrated his birthday at the Fox Trap nightclub in Kumasi.

Kobi Rana made his entry into the film industry through ‘Hotel St. James’ then to ‘Fire for Fire’ where he wrote and acted in the series and movie respectively for Revele Films before becoming a musician. After he came out of school, Kobi Rana dropped his first movie production, ‘Kiss Me if You Can’, followed by ‘2-Bad’, ‘Crazy’, and the yet-to-be-released ‘Love & Facebook’ and ‘Hotel Babylon’.

Kobi Rana is regarded as one of the youngest and multitalented entertainers in Ghana. Over the past few years, he has contributed immensely to the movie and music industry. An actor, writer, singer, choreographer, songwriter, producer and director, many African youth take inspiration from him due to his creativity and confidence.

Born and raised in Kumasi, he moved to Accra for his primary and junior high school education at Greenhill International School after which he attended St. Augustine’s College in Cape Coast. In high school, he won campus, regional and national awards for his efforts in drama and art writing. This motivated him to take the arts seriously.

He further obtained a bachelor’s degree in English and Theatre Arts at the University of Ghana. Having garnered 7 nominations at the 2010 Ghana Movie Awards including Best Director and Best Writer, with ‘Kiss Me If U Can’, Kobi is definitely here to stay.
