While some of his colleagues are extorting money from motorists at police checkpoints, DSP Kofi Sarpong of the Ghana Police Service is lacing his boots to grab three awards at the forthcoming Ghana Music Awards (GMA) slated for this Saturday April 10.
The police chief turned gospel musician entered the music industry less than a year ago but he is arguably the musician with the fastest growing fame in Ghana now and reports say he is under pressure to sing an English version of the album's hit track- 'Meto Ndwom' after he earned three nominations at this year's edition of the GMA.
He has been nominated for the Gospel Artiste of the Year, the Discovery of the Year and the Gospel Song of the Year categories.
NEWS-ONE has gathered that a large number of his fans have declared their intention to vote overwhelmingly for him to win the awards because he is competing with other heavy weights in all three categories.
In the category of the Gospel Artiste of the Year, DSP Kofi Sarpong will be competing with the likes of Ohemaa Mercy, Ernest Opoku, Celestine Donkor and Florence Obinim.
His competitors for the Gospel Song of the Year are Diana Hamilton, Florence Obinim, Ernest Opoku, Ohemaa Mercy and Celestine Donkor while for the category of Discovery of the Year, Kofi Sarpong is slugging it out with Mimi, Sarkodie, Ayigbe Edem, and OJ Blaq.
NEWS-ONE has gathered that Kofi Sarpong has been invited to tour Europe with his debut album- 'Sacrifice'- which is already topping music charts in Ghana.
This is considered good news to Ghana's ailing music industry which has been largely criticized for not being able to compete on the international scene.
The challenge for Kofi Sarpong is how to get his police bosses to grant him the permission to leave for the trip.
As is expected of a police officer, Kofi Sarpong is keeping the issue under wraps and maintaining tight lips.
What he has told the Ghanaian media is that he hopes to use the album to make a difference in the lives of the youth.
Kofi Sarpong explained that the album, produced by Ernest Kwesi Ennin of Media Excel Production, is a true reflection of his worshipping heart and desire for Godliness.
Presently, the inspirational singer's CDs have hit the streets and are selling like hot cake in Accra and other regional capitals.
