To many followers and fans of Kofi, his fourth position placing during Mentor 2 was not a true reflection of the young and talented man who can give you back any song you give him in the same tone and language in which it was originally made.
So when Anita let the cat out of the bag that Kofi was the king of the Battle, the now famous Studio B of TV3 erupted to a thunderous applause amidst shouting, tears of joy and all kind of noise that his fans can give to him.
The Battle organized by the station known for its abilities to bring to its viewers the first in news and best in entertainment programs, TV3, was aimed at bringing supposedly the best performances of the ever popular Mentor Reality Show from Mentor 1 to 3. Though the selection of the contestants did not go down well with a section of the media and the public alike the selected contestants didn’t disappoint at all except a few who from all intents and purposes looked ill-prepared for the showdown.
The Battle witnessed the return of Prince (winner of Mentor 2), Paa, Vic, KG, Cee, Faya, Isaac, Joe, Kofi, Dela, Hakeem and Erico (winner of Mentor 3) but the fans and the media wanted to see talented and controversial contestants like Prince (winner of Mentor 1), Maya, Ruth, Okuraseni Samuel, Adez, among others but the organizers knew best.
To Kofi it was a Battle worth fighting and finally emerging victorious. He said; “after the finals of Mentor 2, I was just looking for an opportunity to prove that I have something that was not recognized during the Mentor show so when I was invited for this contest I thanked God and I said to my self, this is a do or die affair. It wasn’t easy because I knew Joe and Prince were ahead of me the last time round so I have to put in all my best and push hard till victory is mine. I did just that and to my fans I thank them so much for voting for me”.
Interestingly, the final four Kofi Joe, Prince and Isaac have all had a taste of studio life. Kofi released a song for mothers on Mothers Day last year, Isaac had a superb run on the gospel circles with his first album, “Nyame Dor me”, Joe and Prince were the brink of releasing their first albums before the show commenced. At the end of it all Kofi run away with the title as the best of best, followed by Prince, Isaac and surprisingly Joe. The after party was held at the now famous Yegoala Nite Club.
Now that the battle line has been drawn, it was interesting listening to the enthusiastic crowd at the TV3 premises calling for Mentor 4, the questions here are; when cometh Mentor 4 and has TV3 revised the notes from Mentor 3? We are watching!!!
