It was a night to remember as three great musicians; “Mr Music Man” Kojo Antwi, "Lover Man" Daddy Lumba and "African Dancehall King" Samini mounted the stage to perform at this year’s Vodafone African Legends Night at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra.
The 7th edition of the event brought together thousands of music lovers from all walks of life who were thrilled with back to back hits from these great icons as they stood to dance their feet off. Present was the former First Lady of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings.
Traditional music group, Wulomei firstly rocked the place with their Atenteben bamboo flutes and traditional local percussion that included the giant gome frame drums. They captivated audiences with their popular songs such as Meridian, Akosua Serwa, Aklowa, Kaagba, Menye Menye Menye and Takoradi which got them hyper before handing over to Mr Music Man.
As usual Kojo Antwi with an exciting and successful musical career spanning over two decades didn’t disappoint as he set the stage on ‘fire’ making fans go haywire delighting them with songs such as Adiepena, Pour some sugar on me, Tom and Jerry, Mmrika, Nfa me nko ho and many more with his clear, soothing and flawless seductive voice that radiates through his massive collection of smooth and sultry ballads.
Next to give a spectacular performance was multiple award-winning Dancehall artiste Samini who dropped some of his great tunes such as Gyae shee, My Own, Odo, Samini Music, a rendition of Bob Marley’s Redemption Song and many more that kept patrons on their feet throughout his performance.
Daddy Lumba ended the show with an amazing performance that made the audience call for more of his countless tunes. He made fans sing one of his best songs on stage to attest how much love they have for his songs.
As the event marked his 54th birthday, Global Media Alliance and Vodafone celebrated the legend with a birthday song before performing on stage. Daddy Lumba joined by Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, CEO of Global Media Alliance and some executives from Vodafone cut his birthday cake and gave thanks for the love shown by the organisers of the event and people present.
Event delivery was on point with no hitches and the legends delivered with patrons asking for more even when the show ended at 12.30am.
Last year, the show witnessed great performances from Kanda Bongo Man of DR Congo, Amakye Dede, Daddy Lumba, Aka Blay, eShun and Nana Yaa.
