Most of us have in one way or the other enjoyed a couple of foreign pranks being shown on our local TV stations, but will Ghanaians accept if we bring it down here and involve people on the street?
According to Konxept Worae, a promising team of seven who have taken it upon themselves to inculcate pranks into Ghana’s entertainment industry, their journey so far has been very challenging. The content producer of Konxept Worae, Joseph Owusu Worae, in an interview with Flex newspaper touched on some of the ordeals they go through when their pranks go wrong.
“Ghanaians have not accepted pranks yet, because we have been assaulted on several occasions. I remember sometime ago we decided to use sachets of water to act like we were urinating on luxurious cars in traffic and one of the drivers almost knocked me down. Others are too serious that when we prank them, they slap or hit us,” Joseph revealed.
“If not for the intervention of one reputable boss of ours at TV3, my team and I could have faced a serious court charge. Certain people see us like some fraudsters when we hit the streets to prank, so we’ve even been arrested several times,” he added. Together with his best friend and co-producer, Joel, with the support of Patrick Alabee as well, Konxept Worae was created about two years ago amidst inadequate funding and discouraging comments.
Today, the team can boast of quite a number of interesting prank videos and other hilarious political videos which go viral on social media and Youtube channels. Due to Worae’s affiliation to TV3 as the Head of Entertainment in their newsroom, they have been able to solicit for airtime on TV3 to air their prank videos. This, he said, is more than enough mileage for the Konxept Worae team.
“We are grateful TV3 has given us the platform to showcase our ideas. I’m currently funding our projects with my salary, but we are hoping sponsors would come aboard soon. Despite the risks involved in pranking and all, my team and I are focused on the dream so we are never giving up. We are striving hard to add a new phase to entertainment in Ghana. We would soon meet up with KSM to present our works to him and seek his guidance since he started pranks sometime back, but couldn’t sustain it,” Worae concluded.
