At the time of going to press late Tuesday, actor/broadcaster/comedian Samuel Seth Kwabena Kyere Karikari aka Koo Fori was locked in a meeting with lawyers and top management people of TV3 Network to work out their differences about the popular Ghanaian Showbiz icon’s instituted legal action against TV3 for libel and slander.

A letter dated 26th January, 2011 indicated that “certain defamatory remarks were made on “HOT GOSSIP”, a programme on TV3, which according to Lawyers of Koofori “has tarnished their client’s image”

Lawyers of Koofori in the same letter stated that on Saturday the 22nd of January, 2011 when HOT GOSSIP was aired some of the remarks made on the said programme stated that “three months after the death of Koo Fori’s wife, he has married again”. A claim his lawyers said was false.

The said programme also allegedly stated categorically that Koofori had married a white lady and they “have been spotted in some public places in Tema”. During this time, Koofori was on holidays in America and returned a day after this program was aired. They said the remarks made on the said programme have brought the name of their client into disrepute.

As a result of this programme well meaning persons as well as members of the family of his deceased wife have been casting insinuations to the effect that he might have had a hand in the demised of his wife in order to marry this white female”

The story was since retracted on the same programme the following week (Saturday, January 30), however, Koo Fori met with TV3 on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 to register his dissatisfaction with the manners the retraction and apology was rendered, saying “most of the people (including Family members of the deceased) who saw the first story did not get the chance to see the ‘retraction’”.

On Tuesday, according to a reliable source at TV3, Koo Fori’s lawyers have requested that TV3 render new installment of apologies including on major TV3 programme such as Spotlight, Sunrise and also on the station’s prime time news. The new arrangement was supposed to be put in print and activated as such starting Wednesday, February 3, 2011.

Aside that, Koo Fori demanded that top management people of TV3 joined him to the family of the deceased- Mary Nana Aba Enchill, and the Pastor of his church to explain that they ‘goofed’ and reported an incorrect info “and has since retracted and apologized accordingly”.

Mary Nana Aba Enchill gave birth to a bouncing baby girl for KooFori on 4th August 2010 at Medifem medical center, Dzorwulu. Unfortunately, she collapsed while breast feeding her two weeks baby girl and died some few minutes later at the Sakumono community hospital. The doctor who worked on Koofori’s wife was later arrested by the police for questioning due to the outcome of the postmortem report.

We will bring you new development as at when they come in.
