'Kukesi' movie thriller officially launched

"Kukesi", the much-anticipated Ghanaian movie was launched at a colourful ceremony at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Accra.

This was a prelude to the official premiering at the Global Cinemas in Weija, Accra on Saturday, November 3, 2018.

“Kukesi” seeks to showcase various African cultural expressions, as we seek identification with our unique culture tradition and values.

Speaking at the press launch, Mr. Lucky Evergreen Erhaze, Director and Producer of “Kukesi” highlighted the rationale behind the movie, which seeks articulate “incest” an abominable African act, but had been swept under the carpets.

“The movie brings to bare, the urgent need to embrace our morals and tradition as a means of strengthening the country’s moral fabric as well as portraying a more positive image globally. In this regards, “Kukesi” is poised to cross the shores of Ghana with the quest to portray Africa’s heritage to the world,” he stated.

Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashi, former Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, said the film industry was significant in showcasing our value and belief adding that, “this movie would go a long way to demonstrate our values which makes us unique”.

She appealed to all stakeholders to garner efforts that would help drive the needed change in the film industry and make it lucrative to the rest of the world.

She added that, stakeholders in the creative industry should support each other’s course as it remains the only platform to help thrive Ghanaian culture.

The storyline of the movie depicts a demigod whose prowess is known throughout the land and the only mortal who has a table before the mortals.

Faced with his quest to seek pardon for the abominable act perpetrated by his people, “Kukesi” remains defiant in protecting his people, which generates a tussle with "Okunu", a powerful river goddess as they battle each other on the corridors of power.

Kukesi parades the finest actors in Ghana and the Africa diaspora, which includes Emmanuel France, Paul Wilson, Vigah Zukah, Stacy D'Mawuse and Abena Boakye with a host of new acts, which includes Ben Affat, Nana Yaa Agyare, Henry Agyei, Lydia Ayiku, Paul Wilson among many others.
