Kumasi, Aug. 20, GNA - The Centre for National Culture (CNC) in Kumasi is to organize a pre-National Festival on Arts and Culture (NAFAC) Kente exhibition between September and October this year in Kumasi.

The programme, which will be sponsored by UNESCO, forms part of the preparations the Centre is making towards the nationwide NAFAC slated for November 1-10 at the same venue.

Mr Samuel Francis Adjei, Director of the Centre announced this at the closing ceremony of an arts and craft bazaar organized by the Centre in Kumasi at the weekend.

Forty-five exhibitors from Ashanti and the northern parts of the country mounted wares including weaving materials, collection of beads, leather works, brass items and woodcarvings. He indicated that the month-long bazaar coincided with the Centre's annual tourists season event and was very happy about the heavy patronage and contribution from both exhibitors and the public. Mr Adjei said that this year's NAFAC event would involve new activities, which would include, traditional medicine, new innovations, cooking arts and many others and charged the participants to work hard so that they could participate in the event. Mr Eric Tei-Matey, Deputy Director of the Centre and Coordinator of the bazaar said the Centre would need more sponsors for future events. He said the fair was organized to enable exhibitors to showcase their wares as well as market themselves both locally and internationally.

He urged young and budding artists to take advantage of such events to improve on their talents so that they could be self-reliant and also improve on their living standards. Mr Emmanuel Tetteh Quaye, Chief Accountant at the Centre praised the exhibitors for their performance and urged them to research and get meaningful information to be able to get more customers for their products on the world market. 20 Aug. 07
