The brouhaha about the Kumawood Akoben Film Festival Awards can be put to rest as organizers of the show have landed on the final date as 23rd January, 2016.
Confirming the date to Bekwai based Dess FM 90.3 on their entertainment show last Saturday, the CEO of Kumawood, Mr. Samuel Kwabena Darko known in the showbiz industry as Samdakus, he told the host, OGEE that the awards that had led to the postponements of the show are now ready and also confirmed that the awards were made in Dubai.
“Yes the date is now set for 23rd January, 2016 at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Kumasi and it is also true that the awards were made in Dubai. I traveled to Dubai myself to make the awards. The awards were made in crystals which are like glasses. They made a sample for me and it was very nice. The names of the awardees could be seen inside the glass when you view from every angle. But when the awards were in three days before the show, the writings could be hardly read. They were like sorry to say, Arabic. So we thought it wise to postpone it so that we send them back for perfect ones.”
When asked about why the awards were not made in Ghana, Mr. Darko said looking at the nature of the awards, no company in Ghana could do them as they wanted them to be different from all the awards they have presented.
He however, called on Ghanaian companies who can make such awards if any to come on board so that they will be given to contract next time.
The Kumawood Akoben Film Festival Awards has faced several postponements which has made movie lovers and stakeholders furious.
The first official date was on the 27th December last year which could not come off due to the problems with the awards. There was however, a date like 16th of January, 2016 and now the final date is set to be 23rd January, 2016 at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Kumasi.
