One of Ghana’s latest hiplife artistes, Kurl Songx, has disclosed that he came from a very poor family and that life wasn’t easy for him growing up.

The twenty-four-year-old star believes that his father is to blame for the hardship he faced with his mother and other siblings.

According to Kurl Songx, his family is a very large one, owing to the fact that his father kept on adding more members through different women. Despite his father’s strong desire to have more children, he was irresponsible and never took proper care of any of his children, Kurl Songx revealed without mincing words He reiterated that if his father had been ‘responsible’, he Kurl Songx would have been a better person today.

“As I speak with you my father still impregnating other women to have more children; but even those ahead of me, my older siblings and the ones after me, he never took care of us,” he said.

The ‘Jennifer Lomotey’ hit-maker made this revelation when he appeared as a guest on the Delay Show on Sunday. He touted his mother as the pillar behind his existence today, adding that had it not been for his mother's efforts, he wouldn’t have even gone to senior high school.

When asked if his comments about his father would not be offensive to the old man, Kurl Songx responded in the negative, stressing that he was speaking the whole truth about his father and in his view, that does not amount to betrayal or disgrace.

He further narrated how his mother sold everything she had in order to get him enrolled in school; but even after she had taken that step, his father still refused to help him. “My mother sold everything she had in her room just for me to go to school; and without my father’s help, I completed school and had to face life, becoming the bread winner of my family,” Kurl Songx narrated.

After school, he secured a teaching job in Kokomlemle where they lived and his salary was GHC 90. However, he got wind of Vodafone Icon reality show and knowing he had always had a knack for singing, he auditioned. Fortunately for him, he succeeded at the audition and entered into the competition but couldn’t win.

Therefore, he had to go back to the classroom to resume his teaching job and his regular GHC 90 cedis salary.

It was during his teaching job that a friend informed him about a ‘better’ job in Takoradi and so he headed there for that job. But on reaching Takoradi, he heard about the MTN Hitmaker audition which was on going and decided to go and audition.

Again, he passed the audition, contested and eventually became the season five winner of MTN Hitmaker in 2016. Kurl Songx hinted that at the moment, he is focusing on his career and would think of furthering his education when the right time comes.

His first single, ‘Jeniifer Lomotey’ which features the ‘Highest' rapper Sarkodie became a hit song and is currently enjoying massive airplay across the country.

Kurl Songx, also called Kelvin said he hopes to win some awards – best new artiste of the year and best male vocalist - at the upcoming Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
