Kwabre marks Ghana @ 50 with choral music competition

Mamponteng (Ash), May 22, GNA - The Mamponteng Seventh-Day Seventh-Day_Adventist (SDA) Church choir emerged the overall winners in a choral music competition held at Mamponteng in the Kwabre district on Sunday.

Ntonso SDA choir also placed second with the third place going to the Ntonso Saint Anthony's Catholic Church choir. The competition organized jointly by the Ashanti Regional Co-ordinating Council (RCC), the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Culture and the Ghana @ 50 Secretariat formed part of activities to mark fifty years of independence of Ghana in the district.

The theme for the occasion was "One Nation, One People, One Destiny".

In an address, Alhaji Kwasi Yeboah, the District Chief Executive for Kwabre, expressed concern about the mischievous comments often made by callers on radio programmes, which tend to hamper the progress of the freedom the country is enjoying and said such practices be stopped. He said the celebration of Ghana @ 50 is important for the political milestone of the country and urged Ghanaians to unite to ensure the development of the country.

He also advised Ghanaians to bury their political differences and together forge ahead towards the socio-economic development of the country.

Mr Barima Asumadu Sakyi, Head of Music at the Centre for National Culture in Kumasi, commended the participants for their participation. The winners were presented with certificates of honour. 22 May 07
