Veteran Ghanaian gospel music star, Kwaku Gyasi has expressed his dissatisfaction and disappointment in the board of the VGMA for scrapping the Album of the Year category from this year’s awards.

The ‘Ayeyi’ hitmaker who was in a close interview with seancitygh.com said he does not understand why the Gospel Album of the Year was not included in the nominations this year. He therefore, advised the board to reconsider their decision and come back again.

He again said he is now about to release his new album dubbed, ‘Ayeyi Mmere’ which contains twelve(12) hit songs that will qualify for next year’s awards.

“VGMA board should not scrap the Gospel Album of the Year category. They should reconsider their decision and come back again. Because this year is going to be very interesting in the gospel industry talking about bringing out powerful albums. I am going to bring out an album myself titled, Ayeyi Mmere with twelve(12) hit songs. I strongly believe that most of the songs on the album are going to be hit. They should wait for my new album and see.”

Kwaku Gyasi’s statement follows a decision from the board of the VGMA, the ultimate award scheme in Ghana that they have scrapped the Gospel Album of the Year category from this year’s awards because after hours and days of scrutiny, none of the gospel albums submitted contained hit songs that qualified for an album of the year award.

Several gospel singers have come out to register their displeasure about the decision with some calling it undermining their hard-earned job.
