Music producer, composer, and drummer Joshua ‘Virgen’ Boateng, sometimes called JVB, has expressed confidence the Defe Defe controversy will be settled amicably.

Music Executive Kwame Mickey has accused contemporary gospel group Team Eternity Ghana of plagiarism, citing an old song of his and a new song of the accused bearing the identical name Defe Defe.

Kwame Mickey’s gospel song was performed by Christ International’s Halleluya Voices in 2004, while Team Eternity’s is from 2024, a current viral hit.

Mickey has invited Team Eternity to sit and settle the issue, or else face a lawsuit led by “an international lawyer.”

Conflict Resolution

Reacting in an exclusive interview with Class News’ Prince Benjamin (PB), Thursday, June 20, 2024, FRA! band drummer Virgen advised Team Eternity, a group he is well acquainted with, to “reach out to Mr. Mickey and resolve this amicably.”

Emphasizing “the right things must be done,” he boldly added: “I’m sure they’ll come to an agreement.”

Similarities

Observing both Defe Defe songs, Virgen said: “To answer your question, I see similarities in both songs and it’s just a line.”

“I think the writer took inspiration from the [Halleluya Voices] song Defe Defe, and there’s nothing wrong with it. I’m a composer and I do that myself. Just that I probably don’t use the same lines, I’d tweak it a bit, but there’s nothing wrong with taking inspiration from other songs,” he doubled down with a hint of defense for Team Eternity.
