Rapper Kwaw Kese, known privately as Emmanuel Botchway, has launched the Kwaw Kese Foundation to administer a 20 year Development Project for Ghana’s prisons.

Kese, who did jail time this year for a narcotic related offense, is hoping to give most of Ghana’s prisons the needed infrastructural injection.

“I am sure most of you have heard or watched the ‘locked and forgotten’ documentary which exposed the true state of our prisons in Ghana.

It is from experience that I assure you that the situation is more devastating than it can ever be told in a documentary.

My personal experiences from prison has really touched and moved me to contribute my little quota to help our brothers and sisters who have been incarcerated.

This is to provide some form of training and skill for prison inmates before leaving the walls of the prison to enable to be reintegrated back into the society after serving their terms,” he said addressing the media on Tuesday.

According to him, the foundation has been set up to also educate the public on dangers of substance abuse.

Planned for all ten regions, it is to create awareness, he said Tuesday.

Officials of the foundation say they hope to raise funds to help as many prisons as possible. Subsidized meals, and the general makeup of what are prisons homes in bad state, will be key to its mission.

The Management of the Foundation have also commenced a painting project of all prison cells across the country.

The Director of Prisons, Stephen Coffie, commended Kwaw Kese and his management team for the effort at working towards a better prison system in Ghana.
