The current Miss Ghana, Lamisi Mbilla was yesterday out-doored to the media, at a press conference organized by Sparrow Productions Ltd, organizers of the event. At the conference, she disclosed her objectives and the projects she would embark on during her reign.

According to the queen, she intends to continue the Don Bosco project that began during the reign of her predecessor, Inna Maria Patty, and start up a Guinea worm eradication campaign also.

The Don Bosco street child project, is a charitable organization managed by the Catholic Church, which over the years has provided hope to many street children, orphans, drug addicts, the disadvantaged youth and the less-privileged children in the country.

She said, guinea worm is one of the most debilitating diseases commonly affecting hundreds of our rural folk, and usually thrives where ignorance, poverty and lack of good water supplies prevail.

"It is therefore by no accident that my speech during the contest centered on this subject," she noted.

Briefing the press on the scope of the disease, Lamisi said selected districts in the Northern Region that is the worst affected area and other affected communities would be attended to with a well targeted community-based Public Health Education. This education comprises talks, drama, and a grand durbar in each of the selected districts. As well, several other modes of educating the people about the disease would be employed.

Her hope is to collaborate with the chiefs and opinion leaders, whom she believes would be key players in the campaign; she intends to extend her appeal to the Ministry of Women and Children's Affairs, the regional directorate of Health Services, District Assemblies, NGOs and Civil Society Organizations.

She assured the press of the commitment she had towards making these dream projects a reality and urged that her words be taken serious, not deemed but sheer lip service.

Also at the out-dooring, a draw was made to pick out ten lucky winners, who, through text messages, voted for Lamisi Mbilla as the choice for this year's pageant. Out of the seven thousand voters, the ten lucky winners will each take home an LG cellular phone.
