Registration has begun for the second edition of the Lakeside Marina/Happy FM Fun Run. This means that families and individuals in the capital city will have a reason to be actively involved in the Independence Day sports celebrations set to hit the capital. The marathon which will span a 5km distance will be held at the Lakeside Marina Park at Ashalley Botwe, East Legon, March 6 at 6am.
This initiative is premised on an enjoyable means of promoting healthy lifestyles thus the apt title, Fun Run. The event will therefore help to demonstrate the numerous fun and adventurous means through which exercise can be incorporated into our lives.
Registration which has begun at vantage points all over the capital city has already seen an impressive number of interested participants. Aside the Lakeside Marina Park and Happy FM, interested participants can pick up the registration forms at Silver Star Tower, Koala Shopping Centre, and all Pippa’s Gym locations in Accra. The competition is open to the general public with the option to register as a family, an individual or as a member of a corporate body.
In line with this, awards have been categorized to cater to the registration options. The three criteria outlined are the Individual, Family and Corporate awards with awards for the fastest runner, fastest family and fastest CEO all included in the various categories. Encouraging health and wellness is not new territory to both event organizers as Happy FM is primarily a sports station whereas the Marina group’s Lakeside Children’s Park is evident of their passion for physical activity.
Salah Kalmoni, Executive Director of the Silver Star Towers Ltd, owned by the Marina Group described this event as “an attempt to connect with the community and ensure that everyone understands the various ways through which the maximum benefits of a healthy lifestyle can be attained. The Fun Run is our way of ensuring that people interact and engage themselves in activities that are beneficial on every level to them. People often have the misconception that if you do not go to the gym, you are not working out or you have to be a certain age to exercise, but the little movements we engage ourselves in all count. This is why the Fun Run is important; to remind each and everyone of us that working out can take alternate shapes and forms.”
