The disparaging remarks that greeted Michael Essien's fresh knee injury has stirred ex-Black Stars captain Steven Appiah to slam the critics.
“Leave Akosua alone! For all you know, what has happened to Essien has nothing to do with her. In life, situations like this can happen to anyone, Appiah said in a post-MTN FA Cup trophy tour presentation. To Appiah, the Pure persona boss (Akosua), manager of the Chelsea star, has done so much by way of managing the player and running the Michael Essien Foundation and should be commended rather than criticized. “The lady has been doing a lot for Essien, running his foundation and other stuffs.
I think her critics are not being fair,” Appiah added. Placing himself in Essien’s shoes, he lamented, “I have been there before an I know how it feels like when it comes to surgeries. The rehab is something else, it is a very unpleasant situation, Appiah added. He however pointed that Essien is a strong character and has what it takes to go through it. Few days ago, Essien injured his knee during a presentation preparatory exercise which would keep him out of action for six months.
And the Chelsea star’s injury, the third in a space of less than two years, has generated intense rumours among the sporting populace, with some attributing the injury to his association with Akosua Puni, whom they claim is jinxed.
