AFTER THE controversial split from veteran actress Akorfa Asiedu Ejeani over their ‘I Sing Of A Well’ movie, Ghanaian directress of international repute, Leila Djansi, is back in Ghana with Hollywood superstar Jimmy Jean Louis for her upcoming psychological drama, ‘Sinking Sands.’
The Haitian Hollywood actor arrived in the country on Saturday May 22 at the Kotoka International Airport. He was met on arrival by Leila Djansi.
Jimmy spent the whole of Tuesday shooting at the Trade Fair Centre’s round pavilion with Ghanaian actors Chris Attoh, Grace Nortey, Ama K. Abrebrese, Doris Sackitey, and a number of well-known faces in Ghana’s showbiz industry.
Jimmy and the crew are currently in the Volta Region shooting more scenes. They will spend more than two weeks.
?Efforts to speak with Jimmy on set last Tuesday proved futile, but the model-turned-actor told Ghanaweb that he expects a great experience whilst filming, meeting the people and seeing the wonderful places in Ghana.
“I joined the ‘Sinking Sands’ project because I liked the story. It is a beautiful and well-written story worth telling”, he reportedly said. ?
‘Sinking Sands’ is a psychological drama about a couple, Jimah (Jean-Louis) and Pabi (Ama K. Abebrese), in a loving marriage which turns into one of violence and abuse when Jimah becomes disfigured in a domestic accident.
Jimmy Jean-Louis has had a successful career as an international model and actor. Early in his career, he honed his acting skills in a number of independent films which led him to land a supporting role in Jean Claude Van Damme’s ‘Derailed’, setting the stage for subsequent roles with other Hollywood notables.
He went on to secure major roles in movies such as: ‘Tears of the Sun’, ‘Hollywood Homicide’, ‘Monster-in-law’ and ‘The Game of Our Lives’. He also played the lead role in ‘Phat Girlz’, starring opposite Academy Award winner Mo’Nique as her love interest.
Currently playing the Haitian on NBC’s ‘Heroes’, Jean-Louis is also the founder of Hollywood Unites for Haiti, a nonprofit organization dedicated to exposing and educating the underprivileged youth of Haiti to the arts and sports.
He is concentrating on Haiti, especially after the devastating earthquakes. His role in supporting the people of Haiti after the tragic event has been well recognized with several honours, including one at the White House, recently.
