Actor Papa Kumasi
A Kumasi Based Actor cum TV show host Clement Nana Sarfo known on screens as Papa Kumasi has expressed his worries about the rate at which local television stations in Ghana have been flooding their platforms with Telenovelas.
According to the actor, these soap operas are interrupting the growth of Ghana movie industry.
The Royal TV Presenter told De-majesty Kamil Umar of SeanCitygh.com that, television stations that show these series with the aim of entertaining their viewers are making things difficult for actors and movie producers in the country.
He said he finds it difficult to understand the TV stations that show these Telenovelas with nude scenes.
"These TV stations were complaining that there were nudity in our local movies but these same people have imported soap operas that are comparable to ours so who is doing the right thing?’’
"The television stations have made things difficult for us. I don’t even think that they themselves have realized it. We know that they want to entertain their viewers by showing them these soap operas.’’
Papa Kumasi further called for consensus building among stakeholders to avert this situation before it gets out of hand.
"I think only consensus between us and the TV stations can minimize this canker but I know very soon all these things will stop if we upgrade our standard’’
