Let us immortalise Ebony – Tourism Minister

The Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Hon. Catherine Ablema Afeku, has made a clarion call to personalities in the Creative Arts industry to do their best to immortalize the memory of songstress, Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng, known in the showbiz circles as Ebony Reigns.

“This is the clarion call to the musicians, artists of Ghana to come together and to make a bold statement on road safety on the lives of talented, creative citizens of this nation and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture will support you. Let us make a statement so our sister, Ebony’s death will not be in vain. There are too many of us dying on the road but we have to use our talent; we have to use our creativity; to send a message to educate the citizenry. One life lost is one too many. We will continue to beg that while mourning our sister, Ebony, immortalise this tragedy that something good or better will come out of it”, she noted.

She added “Never again will a bright star such as Ebony, leave this planet in this manner. So, if we musicians, film stars and others will do something great to honour the parents of Ebony, it should start today. Let this not be a talk but rather a big lesson for the nation that at the heels of this tragedy, the memory of Ebony will live on through these actions. We will take a step to sensitize the nation through our music and movies – let us do something to honour our sister. Let us immortalise Ebony”.

Hon. Afeku made this observation when addressing mourners at the one week celebration of the demise of Ebony Reigns, at the St. Martins De Porres School, Dansoman, on Thursday, February, 18, 2018.

Her comments follows an appeal made by the President of MUSIGA, Bice Osei Kuffour, aka Obour, to the Government of Ghana to consider constructing dual carriage roads through the country to minimise road carnage

Ebony Reigns lost her life in a tragic car accident on Thursday, February 8, 2018, on the Sunyani-Kumasi when returning to Accra after visiting her mother.

She died alongside two other people in the same car she was traveling with.

A cross-section of the public have attributed her sudden demise to the bad nature of the road on which the accident occurred, with many of them calling for the head of the contractor who has been contracted to fix the road.

Hon. Afeku commenting further, charged the Creative Arts industry players to come together and a make a statement that will forever change the status of the various road networks in the country in honour of the memory of Ebony.
