Let us promote traditional music for national development - Baafour Asare

Baafour Asare Panin II, Chief of Amanase on Friday stressed the need to pursue and promote traditional music and art for national development.

He expressed concern about the gradual disappearance of traditional African theatre music, like Osode, Adowa, Kete and Kpanlogo.



Speaking to Ghana News Agency after addressing a Community-Based Organisation, Abibiman Sankofa Cultural Movement at Amanase, Baafour Asare said traditional cultural music and dance was not only to entertain, but also to educate, inform.



He noted that traditional music and dance had advantage over foreign music and culture because they were readily available and could be performed at any function.

Baafour Asare commended members of the movement for their development-oriented activities in rural communities to help improve skills of the people to develop available natural resources to enhance their living standards.



Members of the movement are engaged in rural industrialisation such as production of ceramics, pottery, bricks manufacturing, gari processing, palm and kernel oil extraction. He also encouraged people to work in their communities for national development.
