Ghanaian actress Yvonne Okoro has described as “insane” the sale of migrants in Libya as slaves.
“Slavery still ongoing. This is insane. Watching a human being being sold like chattel for $400 in Libya is absolutely ridiculous,” she said in a tweet.
A video that shows African migrants sold as slaves in Libya sparked a global outcry on Monday.
The video published by CNN shows two men stand in the dark negotiating with an auctioneer to buy migrants for about $400 each.
Some football stars including Manchester United’s Paul Pogba have all condemned the modern slavery ongoing in Libya. Pogba described it as a cruelty which must end.
Six years after the overthrow and death of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, Libya is still a failed state and a transit point where thousands of African migrants use as a gateway to reach Europe despite the risk of imprisonment, torture and even death.

While very happy to be back, my prayers go to those suffering slavery in #Libya. May Allah be by your side and may this cruelty come to an end! pic.twitter.com/i4hxfX3CiB
