1. How many calories do you burn while having sex

A lot of people, including Khloé Kardashian, believe that a hot and sweaty session in between the sheets can double as a good workout. So, if you have ever wondered whether romping is the best calories-burner, you are not alone.

While a lot of studies have pointed out that having sex does help in burning calories, it might be too soon to replace it with your regular workout session. The number of calories you burn while getting hot and heavy depends on a lot of factors including your weight and the intensity of your romp.

2. How many calories do you really burn during sex

A study published in the journal PLOS ONE sheds light on the number of calories an intense sexual activity burns. While women on an average burn around 69 calories in 25-minute sex session, it translated into roughly 100 calories for men. The key to burning calories lies in how vigorous your romping is.

3. Men Vs Women

To break it down, men burn around 4.2 calories per minute during sex and women burn an average of 3.1 calories. While the number may not be comparable to a full-blown workout session at the gym, it can be comparable to walking for 30 minutes.

However, it is also important to understand that in real-life, sex lasts for an average of six minutes, which brings down the calorie burnt count drastically. Infact, a different research published in the New England Journal of Medicine estimates that we usually burn around 15-20 calories during our sexual escapades. Ouch.

4. The bottom line

Before you hit the sheets to torch some calories, remember that caloric burn rate vary from person to person. From your heart rate to the intensity of your “bedroom cardio”, there are far too many factors that affect your caloric burn rate. This means if you are aiming to burn calories as you makeout, you may want to take things up a notch and make them more intense.

Even though having sex does not exactly equate sweating it out in the gym, this should not stop you from experimenting with different sex positions and make things hotter in your bedroom.
