Lifestyle: Don't let your past break you

It’s very true work helps us forget about pains and get over ugly memories of life. This is one of the reasons why people occupy their lives with work and activities just to get away from some people and the memories they share with them. Besides that, being busy only hides the presence of those memories but doesn't heal it.

Anytime you feel you are alone or lonely, you have a flash back of these memories. Whenever you have bad day at work, this flash back knocks at the door of your heart.

Hiding a wound doesn't heal it, you have to face the reality. It doesn't matter how ugly the flash backs are, there are positive lessons to learn from that and be grateful for that. Anytime we learn to see good in a bad situation, we overcome the pains associated with it; we are able to smile with the tears in our faces. It gives us hope for the future, it lifts our spirit up.

The next thing to do is to forgive whoever hurt you. You don't forgive them because they deserve it, but because forgiveness is free. Forgiving them doesn't mean you have to trust them. Trust is not part of that bargain. Trust is sold separately and it comes with price. Trust is expensive.

Anytime you give them that gift of forgiveness, you set yourself free from the burden of holding grudges. Holding grudges puts your life on hold, it takes over your life. It makes room for unwanted feelings and emotions. It plays back the past to you repeatedly. You are soaked with regrets and live with pains.

I in particular, have been through painful hurts in the past. Ugly experiences from broken home and a victim in a series of bad relationships; this past didn't make me bitter but better because I learnt from it. Today I can write about my past and smile, I can counsel people using myself as a reference point.

This life is too short to spend time thinking about the past and people who belong in my past. The lesson the past has given you is enough to apply in the future, to become more beautiful, happier, stronger and wiser. Balance your life, take a break from work.

Enjoy your life, make new friends, enjoy nature, take a walk, welcome people who want to be in your life. Always remember you need a family, a shoulder to cry on when you feel like crying, because you can't cry on your own shoulder.

You need someone to hug you and whisper into your ears ‘all is well’ when the going gets tough, for you can't hug yourself. This life is about living for one another, but live with those who love you the most.

Don't let your work break you, rather break your work to be with the people who love you. Value the simple things in life, for they are the greatest gifts in life.

In conclusion "Even so, I have noticed one thing, at least, that is good. It is good for people to eat, drink, and enjoy their work under the sun during the short life God has given them, and to accept their lot in life" - Ecclesiastes 5:18 (NLT)

Please share with your friends, someone out there needs this.
