Before a week to the show, I was fortunate to meet the woman behind Lisarf Music in Kumasi, Madam Lily who told me that the launching of the albums of FBS and Kokovelli will be big.
The musical extravaganza, which featured some of the top artistes, was held at the National Theatre on Saturday, December 4. It was one of the biggest hiplife concerts ever organized in the country, which brought together over 20 individual performers in a mega bash to mark the official out-dooring of Kokovelli and FBS new album.
Willy Ashley and Sammi B of Joy Fm welcomed the audience with nice funny jokes just to keep the audience entertained. "Am paid for fooling so why not fool to get my money", Sammi B said on stage.
When the show finally began around 9pm, the roll call was simply too long to believe as a lot of artistes came. Nash I and Ras Nigga started but the DJ messed them up on the show.
Quata set the tone for the dons, and when he came on stage, the crowd could not remain in their seats. Okra received a rousing applaud when he came to help Quata out. It was a surprise for the audience that Okra was on stage as they played his 'Ayekoo', the original version, which featured Pop Skinny after Quata finished performing.
Hiplife hit makers Castro, 4x4, Buk Bak, Pop and Skinny, Screw Face shook the crowd with sizzling stage performances with songs like Bone Shaker, Kpekpele and Gonja Barracks
Kokovelli was formally invited on stage by Bola Ray, he dropped the former chart buster, 'Zaa - zaa' song and guess what, a member of the Trinity, Batman came through the audience to help his brother out before he sang three new songs from his new album - 'Ede Bee', 'Sakplalakpa' and 'African Woman'.
FBS, made up of Niche, Yoboy, Najo ripped the microphones to thrill the audience. After the screams and shouts of the Old Man Booger song they he finally sang it after three songs from their albums and out of nowhere, Aletse Kankpe Tinny was on stage and you can guess for yourself.
According to the management of Lisarf Music, she saw the boys' performance as excellent and good.
The albums of the moment, "African Woman' and 'Old Man Booger'" were launched by a famous television and comedian personalities, Papa Sly and Koo Fori. Tony Yeboah bought the first copy of "African Woman" for 10 million cedis while a young man bought the second for 8million cedis.
K.K. Fosu, whose new 'Anadwo Yi' song has become an instant hit in the music industry, was invited again on stage as the speakers went off at the request of the audience and when he and Kofi Nti returned playing guitars the atmosphere was supercharged. George Jaraah sang his Ashikele to the admiration of the enthusiastic crowd.
The crowd's response to the various artistes and their performances showed clearly that they all came to help out in the launching of their brothers albums. No wonder other hiplife artistes like Papa Row, Ayowa, Slim Busterr, Dr. Poh, Randy Nunoo, Osa Ray, Nkasei, Asuafour, VIP and Okyeame Quame.
The show somehow went on well but time factor was always against the organizers of the show. And the term 'If we know you, we would make or let you perform' should be stopped. Some other top hiplife artistes were also there to help their brothers, FBS and Kokovelli out but could not perform.
They came to the venue and did not demand any money from the organizers and if they had performed for the organizers you can imagine what the show would be like.
