Accra, Oct. 17, GNA -An annual Fidelity Day, to celebrate the marriage institution and discourage divorce has been instituted to honour couples that have been able to hold their marriages together for periods ranging between seven to 75 years.

The Day, the first of which comes off next year at the Banquet Hall, State House, on February 14, is aimed at helping couples to understand the values of commitment while helping in the reduction of the spread of HIV.

The Excellence Awards Company and the International Central Gospel Church, (ICGC) are the organisers of the event, dubbed "Matrimonial Jubilee Banquet Ball'.

About 600 married couples would be expected to attend the event and participate in a competition to select those with long years of marriages. They would be receiving various prizes ranging from foreign trips, special hampers and jewellery.

The Reverend Anamua Mensah-Otabil, General Overseer of the ICGC, said in spite of the many challenges, married couples should not give up on their marriages.

He said there was the need to hold onto old values that sustained marriages in the face of challenges. Mrs Veronica Ayiku, Chief Operations Officer of Sunny FM in Accra, said fidelity was an important ingredient to hold relationships together.
