Lord Kenya To Follow Footsteps Of Idol

Fri, 28 May 2004 Source: ghanamusic.com

When 22 year-old Francis Ofori entered the first ever Look-Alike show organised by Royal House Entertainment a couple of months ago, he was obviously not just looking at coming out tops. The young man had plans of following in the footsteps of Lord Kenya whom he imitated to a fault to come out tops at the event.

Perhaps Francis did not even know he was going to go home with 3 million cedis cash prize. All he wanted to do and succeeded in doing was imitate his idol, rap heavyweight Abraham Philip Akpo Kojo Kainya better known as Lord Kenya.

According to Francis, he was doing well during the competition because of the screams that came from every corner the National Theatre whenever he was on stage, ?I could not believe that l had won when it was announced, l wept all night and could not sleep.?

He went on ?The following day was Sunday so I decided to go church and give an offertory to thank God but tears could not flow from my eyes so l asked a neighbour to do it on my behalf.?
Showbiz invited Francis over for a chat and this reporter was amazed at the extent to which he had gone just to be Lord Kenya and how very much the latter influences his life. Said Francis ?when l am so down, the song lifts me, sometimes l wonder what l would have done without him.?

Is anybody saying ?wow?? Exactly what this reporter said when she first heard this. Perhaps this should not come as a surprise from someone who claims to follow Lord Kenya everywhere he performs, ?l do not miss any show he is billed to perform and l get so disappointed when he does not turn up for shows he has been billed to perform.?

Francis Ofori, old student of Swedru Secondary School said he has had the chance to do a few performances under the name Spirit Stiga and in his own estimation he is not doing badly judging from his audience?s reaction .

Has Francis met his idol yet? Trust that he probably would have gone berserk if he had not met Lord Kenya by now. Francis says Lord Kenya was extremely nice to him, ?he has promised to give me all the support l need in quest to follow in his footsteps.?

He told Showbiz that he is seriously looking for a producer to enable him come out with an album, ?l have written about 20 songs and can?t wait to release them.?

Francis says he has done the songs in English, Ga, Twi, and Nzema {obviously in honour of his role model Lord Kenya who is an Nzema}.

To his family, friends and all those who have supported him till date, Francis says ?thank you?. He asked that a special one be said to Mr and Mrs. Sekley of G2 Medical Laboratory for their immense contribution including providing all his costume for the Look- Alike Show, which made him 3 million cedis rich.

I thought I was great fan of Lord Kenya till I saw Francis perform at the National Theatre and invited later had a chat with him.

In an interview with Lord Kenya for his reaction, he said Francis?s ?addiction?  does  not come as a surprise to him, ?Every now and then, I get young people approaching me to say they want to be like me, I encourage them all the time."

Lord Kenya added ?However, I don?t hesitate to caution them that it involves a lot of hard work,? Francis must be lucky because his idol is impressed with him, Frankly, he has great potential and I have plans for him.?
