Lumba Brothers rock Accra

Last Friday the Accra International Conference Center witnessed a spectacular musical performance by the kings of highlife music, Nana Ernest Acheampong and Charles Fosu, aka Daddy Lumba.

The two, who went their separate ways in the 80s, decided to reunite as Lumba Brothers since two heads are better than one.

The show, dubbed “United For Peace Concert” was organized to raise funds to support sports development in Ghana and the Ghana-Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

At 9:12pm sharp the curtains went up to delightfully introduce MCs Wofa K, Delay and Koo Ofori, who with their jokes always left audience with nothing but sheer excitement.

Nana and Lumba rocked the place with their impressive performances as many stood on their feet for over an hour dancing and singing along.

Though some were looking weary among the audience they did not leave until they saw the two musicians perform.

The two, who would be coming out with an album soon, took the audience by storm with their separate performances. Nana was the first to set the ball rolling. He was at his best with the rendition of “Anka ebeye den na aye wo ya”, “Se Eye Wode” and more, from his old and new albums.

Just as he was about to end, Lumba emerged from backstage and the crowd cheered loudly. Intensifying suspense, he quickly retreated, apparently signaling that the joint rendition was imminent. However Nana’s show was ‘wicked’, with some collaborative steps by his dancers.

The silky voiced singer Daddy Lumba was the next to make an appearance. He was greeted with loud cheers by the crowd, who rushed to the stage waving and taking snapshots during his performance. Security was out of the question at that moment as some of the audience mounted the stage to sing with the man who has 24 albums to his credit. He also thrilled with songs as ‘Theresa”, “Sika asem”, “Ohia asem”, “Back for good”, “Aben Wo Ha” and more.

Later Nana Acheampong resurfaced to join Lumba and the enthusiasm became even greater. With the precision of a scud missile, Prof. Azumah Nelson, a former boxer, also joined them on stage and it was remarkable to see how the crowd hailed.

Together as the Lumba Brothers they performed “Yeya Aka Akwantuo Mu” from their very first album.

Performances of the night began with the Wulomei, followed by Owuraku Mickey, Antwi ne Antwi, Castro and Mzbel. The rest were Daasebre Dwamena, Nana Quame, Wutah and Becca who did marvelously well with the live performances which has been the trend lately.

The event which would be held annually was organized by Ghana Base Management and proudly sponsored by Daily Guide, P&P, Happy FM, Radio Gold, Peace FM, Metro TV, GTV and a host of others.
