Mc Portfolio praises Shatta Wale
Ghanaian media personality and entertainment pundit MC Portfolio has shared why he strongly supported Shatta Wale after the dancehall star demanded extra payment during the 2025 GTBank concert in Ghana.
Speaking during a discussion, MC Portfolio explained that although many people often criticize Shatta Wale for his ego, there was one particular moment where he fully respected the musician’s stance and believed it was necessary for the dignity of Ghanaian artistes.
According to him, when the GTBank concert lineup was first announced, Nigerian superstar Burnaboy was positioned as the main headliner for the show, even though the event was taking place in Ghana. Shatta Wale, alongside other Ghanaian acts, was also listed among the headline performers.
Shatta Wale’s only competition is Burnaboy and Davido - Showboy
MC Portfolio stated that Shatta Wale had initially been scheduled to perform at a specific time and charged based on that arrangement. However, organizers later allegedly realized that if Shatta Wale performed before Burnaboy, many fans would leave the venue immediately after his set.
According to him, Shatta Wale’s massive influence and fanbase became a concern for organizers, who feared Burnaoy could end up performing to a reduced audience if the Ghanaian artiste appeared earlier on the lineup.
“They wanted to project Burnaboy over Shatta Wale in his own country, then they realized that if Shatta Wale performs before Burnaboy, most of the crowd will leave and he will perform to an empty stadium,” he said
He alleged that organizers then changed Shatta Wale’s performance slot and moved him closer to the end of the show to keep his fans at the venue until Burna Boy’s performance.
MC Portfolio suggested that the move indirectly undermined Shatta Wale in his own country, arguing that organizers were trying to use Shatta Wale’s fan power to sustain the atmosphere for the Nigerian headliner.
The entertainment pundit noted that Shatta Wale’s decision to demand extra payment after the sudden schedule change was justified and necessary.
“If you want to move him from his original time of performance then his ego should be justified. Now when the GTBank organizers go they will know not to treat Ghanaian artiste anyhow, it will become a precedent and a good eye opener,” he added
MC Portfolio further described the incident as an “eye-opener” for the Ghanaian music industry, stressing that local artistes must demand proper treatment and fair compensation from international event organizers.
According to him, if Shatta Wale had accepted the change without protest, it could have encouraged promoters to continue treating Ghanaian artistes unfairly.
He added that Shatta Wale’s actions sent a strong message that Ghanaian musicians should not be “tossed around” or disrespected.
MC Portfolio concluded by saying that the incident remains one of the few times he openly admired Shatta Wale’s ego, insisting that the dancehall musician’s decision was not only beneficial to himself but also to the entire Ghanaian entertainment industry.
“ Shatta Wale charging extra to perform last at the GT Bank show was an eye opener to other artiste and I respect him for that”
